True Evolution Hoops is introducing True Score, a national player performance rating designed to measure how well players are performing across U SPORTS. The system combines several important parts of a player’s game into one score, giving fans, coaches, and scouts a clearer way to compare performance across teams, conferences, and positions.
- Efficiency carries the most weight in the formula. True Score uses True Shooting Percentage to measure how effectively a player turns shot attempts and free throws into points. Shooting volume is also considered, which helps give proper weight to players who are maintaining efficiency while taking on a meaningful offensive role.
- Scoring impact is the second major part of the rating. The system considers both points per game and scoring production relative to minutes played. This helps identify players who are carrying significant offensive responsibility while also accounting for how much playing time their production comes from.
- Playmaking and rebounding are also important parts of the calculation. Guards receive more weight for assists and playmaking, while bigs receive more weight for rebounding. This positional adjustment reflects the different responsibilities players typically have on the court and creates a more balanced comparison between different roles.
- Minutes played are included as a reliability factor. Players with larger and more consistent roles have more data behind their production, while smaller samples are treated more carefully. This helps keep the rankings stable while still allowing emerging players to rise as their role grows.
- True Score also includes a small team-success component. Five percent of the final rating comes from a team’s winning percentage. This gives a modest boost to players producing within successful teams while keeping individual performance as the main driver of the score.
For the national rankings, the final True Score is built from three parts. Eighty percent comes from a player’s conference-calibrated performance, fifteen percent comes from how that player compares nationally at their position, and five percent comes from team success. This keeps the ranking grounded in the environment each player competes in while still allowing for a broader national comparison.
The rankings are designed to move throughout the season. As players become more efficient, increase their production, or take on larger roles, their True Score can rise. A drop in performance can move the score in the opposite direction. True Evolution Hoops will track those changes over time so readers can follow both the highest-rated players and the biggest risers and fallers.
True Score brings together efficiency, scoring, playmaking, rebounding, role, positional context, and winning into one rating. The goal is to create a consistent national ranking system that gives fans, coaches, and scouts a stronger snapshot of player performance across U SPORTS.
