This past week across U SPORTS delivered a mix of history, statement wins, and momentum swings as the season continues to heat up. From record-breaking scorers to rivalry results and a surprise sweep out West, here is what stood out.
Aaron Rhooms Rewrites the Record Books (OUA Men)
Aaron Rhooms reached another major milestone, becoming the all-time leading scorer in program history at TMU. At the same time, he moved into the Top 20 all-time scoring list across U SPORTS.
Rhooms also became the ninth fastest player in U SPORTS history to reach 1,800 career points, putting him in rare company nationally. His scoring consistency has been a constant all season, and this week confirmed his place among the most productive guards the league has seen.
Madalyn Weinert Moves into the National Top 10 (OUA Women)
Madalyn Weinert continued her steady climb up the national leaderboard, officially moving into the Top 10 all-time U SPORTS women’s regular season scoring list. Already the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Brock University, Weinert now sits at 1,860 career points and 973 rebounds.
Her ability to impact games night after night has made her one of the most dependable players in the country, and her resume keeps growing as the season progresses.
UFV Stuns UBC with a Back to Back Sweep (Canada West Men)
One of the biggest surprises of the week came in Canada West, where UFV Cascade took down UBC Thunderbirds on back to back nights on January 23 and 24.
The sweep snapped UBC’s win streak and sent a clear message across the conference. UFV showed poise and execution in both games, while UBC will be looking to respond quickly as the playoff picture tightens.
Laurier Takes the Battle of Waterloo (OUA Men)
Laurier picked up an 88 to 81 win over Waterloo on January 24 in the latest chapter of the Battle of Waterloo rivalry. The win marked Laurier’s second victory over Waterloo this season and added another important result to their conference run. Games like this always carry extra weight, and Laurier was able to deliver when it mattered most.
