The U SPORTS dominance continues as 12 Canadians will head to Honduras to represent their schools.
The Bishop’s Gaiters men’s basketball team, the Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball team, and the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team have all been selected to represent Canada at the FISU America 3×3 Basketball tournament.
The tournament is hosted by the International University Sports Federation’s (FISU), and this year will be held in Honduras.
Four players from each school will play in the tournament:
From Carleton: Kyana-Jade Poulin, Jacqueline Urban, Tyanne Matosas-Adderley and Catherine Oliver.
From Saskatchewan: Tea Demong, Maya Flindall, Logan Reider and Ella Murphy Wiebe.
From Bishop’s: Reggie Jean-Seraphin, Yanis Malanda, Kyle Maurice and Charles Robert.
During the 2025 FISU America 3×3 tournament in Brasil, the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team was selected as well. They won every game, and headed back to Ottawa with gold medals.
While no one selected this year was on that winning team, both Kyana-Jade Poulin and Jacqueline Urban played in the 2024 tournament in Cipolletti, Argentina.
Neither Bishop’s or Saskatchewan have been to a FISU 3×3 tournament to date, but both teams are coming off U SPORTS medals in the Final Eight championships this year.
The Saskatchewan Huskies were back-to-back U SPORTS champions. In their championship game against the University of New Brunswick, Demong had eight points and four rebounds, Flindall had 17 points and two assists, Reider had 19 points and one steal off the bench, and Murphy Wiebe had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bishop’s Gaiters are coming off a silver medal at the Final Eight championships. In their back-and-forth game against Carleton, they ended up losing by a mere three points. In that game Jean-Seraphin, a former Raven himself, had 14 points and four rebounds, Malanda had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Robert had 14 points and six assists.
The tournament will be held from May 26-28, 2026 and will be hosted in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
